August…Aaawgust…Aaarghust!
From the time I’ve been birding, this is the dryest (actually wettest) month where I’ve stepped out the least. The incessant rains to cloudy mornings to absolutely no-light evenings meant almost no birding at all.
This morning, I decided to venture out despite the unpredictable light. Thankfully it turned out better than I expected.
Started out with what looked like a juvenile Indian Grey Hornbill. This one was perched on this branch for a fairly long time until I slipped on a slush of mud and created a scene.
Followed by a couple of dudes who looked like they just finished Janmashtami celebrations.
Kites never disappoint with their acrobatics.
Green bee-eaters almost merge with the overall greenery around.
A couple of Lesser-whistling Ducks decided to put on a show mid-air.
While a Pond Heron was taking care of his bad hair.
Found a King with a sole focus of finding some good breakfast.
Baya-weavers continue to build nests to impress the ladies.
The ever-so-shy Blue-faced Malkoha looked busy having a snack.
With the nesting season on, got to see a whole lot of juveniles – Ashy Prinia, Purple Sunbird, Black Drongo, Zitting Cisticola and Pied Bushchat.
A male Indian Robin looked colourful when the light lit him up well.
Scaly-breasted Munias are all over in large numbers as well.
On the way back, found three Yellow-billed Babblers serving as branch managers.
Indian Silverbills make the best frame when they are perched at eye level.
While these were the ones I could click, managed to spot 37 species which is recorded on eBird – https://ebird.org/checklist/S93971214
Oh wow…what a treat ! Thank you for all your wonderful clicks and the witty comments that roll with it. Keep them coming !
