Every year, India sees 3-4 million snakebites resulting in about 50,000 deaths. This accounts for roughly half of the global number of deaths from snakebite. Only a small percentage of the victims, across countries, report to hospitals; so, the actual number of snakebites is grossly underreported.

Introducing the Common Snakes Memory Card game – a fun, educational tool designed to help you identify the common snakes found in and around Bangalore. By matching two distinct images of the same snake, players will sharpen their ability to spot key features like a snake’s patterns and colors. Perfect for individuals, families, and communities, this game is a simple yet impactful way to build awareness about these fascinating creatures.

You can make it accessible for schools and communities, including those in rural areas, by sponsoring a set (in multiples of 10) at INR 300 per box. This helps the card game reach the people who encounter these snakes more often than the city dwellers do. Please write to me about your preference when you place the order (In ‘Order notes’).  

Come, join in Shifting Radius’ attempt to create awareness about human-snake conflicts. We believe the first step in this direction is to start a conversation about snakes and help people identify the common ones around them. This list is currently populated with common snakes found on the outskirts of Bangalore. We hope to make it more exhaustive gradually.

Playing the Memory card game is simple and fun, making it a great choice for players of all ages. Here’s how to play:

Setup
Lay all cards face down (the logo side on top) in a grid (rows and columns) pattern.

Objective
The goal is to find pairs of matching cards.

Gameplay
– Players take turns flipping over two cards at a time.
– If the cards match, the player keeps the pair and gets another turn.
– If the cards don’t match, they are turned back over, and it’s the next player’s turn.

Memory Element
Players must remember the location and identity of cards that have been revealed, to make matches in future turns.

Winning the Game
The game ends when all pairs have been matched. The player with the most pairs at the end is the winner.

It’s a great game to improve memory and concentration, and it can be easily adjusted for different age groups by varying the number of cards used.
